Classification:

 Neomeris  J.V. Lamouroux, 1816;  7 of 33 species descriptions are currently accepted taxonomically (Guiry and Guiry 2016).

Order Dasycladales;  Family Dasycladaceae

Morphology:

 Siphonous (coenocytic) unicell, worm-like cylinder up to 2.5 cm long, with a tuft of short hairs at the apex and 30 to 40 whorled lateral branches.  Many discoid chloroplasts.  Calcified in circular bands.
