Name derivation:

Classification:

Celloniella Pascher 1929; only one species described.

Order Hydrurales;  Family Hydruraceae.

 

Morphology:

Pseudofilamentous branching thallus, globular cells separated by secreted mucilage.  Produces tetrahedral zoospores (swarmers), biflagellate but with the shorter flagellum reduced to a ‘bulbous stump (Guiry 2012).

Similar genera:

Hydrurus

Habitat:

Benthic;  attached to rocks in cold streams; similar to Hydrurus
