Name derivation:

(gr.) dasys hairy or shaggy

 

Classification:

Dasya  C. Agardh  1824; at least 12 species are currently recognized taxonomically.

Subclass Florideophyceae; Order Ceramiales; Family Dasyaceae.

 

Morphology:

Erect thallus up to 1 m tall, bushy or sparsely branched, attached by discoid holdfasts (Dawes and Mathieson 2008).
