Phalansterium  Cienkowski  1870; 1 of 5 species descriptions are currently accepted taxonomically (Guiry and Guiry 2013).

A member of the Amoebozoa (uniflagellates) by molecular deducton.

Discussed as a potentially primitive flagellate ancestral to all eukaryotes as well as to animals and fungi (Cavalier-Smith 2000).

Morphology:

Colorless choanoflagellates usually described as uniflagellate with a single basal body; some photographs suggest a second flagellum closely appressed to the first.  Sessile, anchored by an array of microtubules arranged in a circle.
