Name derivation:

 

 

Classification:

Poteriodendron  F.Stein  1878;  1 of 2 species descriptions has been accepted taxonomically (Guiry and guiry 2013).

Order Bicosecida [Bicosoecales Grassé, 1926];  Family Bicosoecaceae

Morphology:

Colonies of colorless cells with delicate organic loricas attached by their sharp-tipped base.

 

Similar genera:

Loricas similar in appearance are spun by Dinobryon spp.

 

Habitat:

Osmotrophs.  Organically rich freshwater, such as sewage outflow and treatment systems.
