Name derivation:

 

Classification:

Hydrosera G.C.Wallich  1858;  both of 2 species descriptions are currently accepted taxonomically (Guiry and Guiry 2013).

Order Biddulphiales;  Family Biddulphiaceae

Morphology:

Chains of triangular (valve view) cells, each cell connected by mucilage pads at one or more valve angles.  Attached to a substrate in a similar manner.

 

Similar genera:

 

Habitat:

Estuarine, and invasion upstream into freshwater, as in the Thames River in England, and the Tamar River in northern Tasmania.
