Morphology: |
||||
Colonies of linear cells with rounded ends. Relatively thick, undulate septa lie internally parallel with valve faces. The septa are especially visible in girdle view (Fritsch 1935). Grammatophora reproduces with anisogametes, apparently transitional between pinnales (nonflagellated isogametes) and centrales (oogametes and microgametes, sometimes flagellated) (Drebes 1977). |
