Colony of araphe pinnate diatoms, cells attached with mucilage pads at valve poles usually forming a zig-zag pattern (cf. Tabellaria), occasionally unicell, observed almost exclusively in girdle view due to several girdle bands that broaden the girdle into a rectangular outline. Chloroplast tends to become reticulate. |
