Stenopterobia  Brébisson ex Van Heurck 1896;  25 of 38 species descriptions are currently accepted taxonomically (Guiry and Guiry 2013).

Order Surirellales,  Family Surirellaceae

 

 

 

Morphology:

Pennate unicellular diatom with raphe lying within a keel along both margins of both valves.  Long and relatively narrow in valve view, either straight or sigmoid.

 

Similar genera:

Surirella is more robust - wider and more heavily silicified, and not restricted to acidic habitats (Lowe 2003).

 

Habitat:

Freshwater, mainly acidic habitats.
