Classification:

Biremis  D.G.Mann and E.J.Cox 1990;  13 of 24 species descriptions are currently accepted (Guiry 2012)

Order Naviculales;  Family Scoliotropidaceae

 

Morphology:

Symmetric biraphe diatom with marginal striae and areolae along one side of valve.

Similar genera:

Originally described as Navicula lucens in 1934 by Hustedt (Sabbe et al. 1995).

 

Habitat:

Brackish and marine sandy benthos.
