Plagiotropis Pfitzer 1871; 22 of 35 species descriptions are currently accepted taxonomically (Guiry and Guiry 2013). Order Naviculales, Family Plagiotropidaceae
Morphology:
Lanceolate valves <100μm long with an arched face.. Fine striae (26 – 30/10 μm parallel and perpendicular to the apical axis of the valve in the middle of the cell, more radiate toward the poles (Bahls 2012).

Freshwater alkaline streams, benthic. Widespread. Motile (gliding motility).
