Classification:

Achnanthes  J.B.M. Bory de Saint-Vincent  1822; 217 of 1154 species descriptions  are currently accepted taxonomically (Guiry and Guiry 2014).

 

Order: Achnanthales, Family: Achnanthaceae

Morphology:

Valve is organized around a line (bilateral symmetry). Raphe system present on one value. Heterovalvar.

Habitat:

Freshwater and marine benthos, subaerial (Slavica et al. 2014).
