Name derivation:

  Latin kampulos bent; neis is derived from naus; Latin navis: ship (Silva 1980)

Classification:

Campyloneis Grunow, 1862

Order Achnanthales;  Family Cocconeidaceae;  12 of 33 described species are currently accepted (Guiry 2012).

 

Morphology:

Broadly ovoid monoraphe unicell.  Excellent SEM photographs can be found in De Stefano et al. (2003).
