Morphology: |
||||
Large (often 30 cm or larger) pseudofilamentous branched ‘bushy’ thalli with apical growth. Cells ovoid, 5 x 10 μm. Has a distinctive ‘foetid’ odor. Dark brown to yellow. Hydrurus can be described either as a non-flagellated colony or as pseudofilamentous, and can be found along both trails in PhycoKey. |

Benthic; attached to rocks in cold streams; similar to Cellullaria. Mucilage dissolves when warmed, collapsing the thallus. |
