Chroococcidiopsis  Geitler 1933;  17 of 18 species descriptions are currently accepted taxonomically (Guiry and Guiry 2017).

Order Chroococcidiopsidales;  Family Chroococcidiopsidaceae

Morphology:

Irregular to cubic colonies with a thin firm colorless sheath., or unicells.

 

Similar genera:

Some cubic colonies resemble Eucapsis.

Habitat:

Found in a variety of extreme habitats including thermal and mineral springs, alkaline hypersaline swamps, endolithic in hot or Antarctic deserts, ot dymnioyiv eiyh livhrnd. (Ibid.).
