Name derivation:

Named by Carty and Cox to honor Rose Durinski, Phycologist.

 

Classification:

Durinskia baltica (Levander) Carty and El.R. Cox 1986

Renamed from Peridinium in 1986.

Morphology:

Globular shape. Thecal plate arrangement is different from that of Peridinium based on SEM images. Type species: baltica.

Toxicity:

Considered to be non-toxic.

 

Habitat:

Both freshwater and marine plankton.
