Name derivation:

Antithamnion= Gr. anti: opposite + thamion: a small bush or shrub
Common name: opposite bushlet or opposite shrub

Or:  Opposite Branching Primitive shrub" -- Opposite Anti- shrub –thamnion

Classification:

Antithamnion Nägeli, 1847; There are 189 species of which 45 species have been taxonomically accepted.

Order Ceramiales;  Family Ceramiaceae; Subfamily Ceramioideae; Tribe Antithamnieae

Morphology:

A small ceramialean red alga with branched filaments occurring oppositely; species delineations based branching patter, + or – of cortical coverings, and characters of gland cells.

Habitat:

Typically found within the sublittoral zone or lowest littoral (in tide pools)
