Classification:

Chromulina  L.Cienkowsky  1870;  31 of 41 species described are currently accepted taxonomically (Guiry 2012)

Order Chromulinales;  Family Chromulinaceae

Or: Order Ochromonadales;  Family Ochromonadaceae (Throndsen  1997)

Morphology:

Flagellated unicell with one emergent flagellum with tinsel; the second smooth flagellum is non-emergent.  May become amoeboid with loss of flagella.  May produce staticysts.

Habitat:

Mainly freshwater, although some species have been found in brackish and marine habitats.
