All flagellated Chrysophytes are heterokonts, i.e. bear on dominant flagellum with mastigonemes (also known as ‘tinsel’ or ‘hairs’) and one subdominant shorter naked flagellum (lacking mastigonemes).
In some cases the shorter flagellum may be so shortened in evolution that only a non-emergent stub remains.
