Classification:

Chrysococcus  G.A.Klebs  1892;  20 of 27 described species are currently recognized (Guiry 2012)

Order Chromulinales;  Family Dinobryaceae, or Family Chrysococcaceae Lemmerman 1899 (Kristiansen and Preisig 2001).

 

Morphology:

Flagellated unicell surrounded by a globose lorica with one emergent flagellum with tinsel; the second smooth flagellum is non-emergent.  The lorica surface can be smooth or sculptured, and in some species have long spines.  Statocysts form within the lorica. (Guiry 2012).
