Rivularia sp.

Rivularia sp. from Lake Attitash MA USA 15 July 2014; epiphytic on invasive Myriophyllum heterophyllum.  Coiled sections near the base of these filaments may be the result of cell growth and elongation within the highly viscous gel of the colony, anchoring the upper sections in place.  Collected by Katie Langley, University of New Hampshire
