Order Mischococcales; Family Pleurochloridaceae
Synonym: Pseudostaurastrum (Tribophyceae) but not Pseudostaurastrum (Eustigmatophyceae).

Morphology:

Unicell with four branching arms,
yellow-green to olive green, 10 – 12 μm diameter. Similar
in shape to some placoderm desmids, but has an
entire cell wall. |

Similar genera:

Arthrodesmus
(Charophyceae), some species, from which species
were separated and moved to Isthmochloron (Skuja 1948). Tetraedron
(Chlorophyceae) is essentially identical
morphologically. Pseudostaurastrum (Eustigmatophyceae)
is also easily confused with Isthmochloron. |
